The cost of summer has soared for families, with the money needed to keep children entertained triple what it was 50 years ago.

A jam-packed calendar of events cost £357 in today’s money back in the 1960s, a figure which is dwarfed by the average of £1,133 spent by parents today, according to research by Nectar....

Long-term unemployment at highest level since 1996

The number of people in long-term unemployment is at its highest level since 1996, according to new figures released by the Office for National Statistics.

The amount of people out of work for over a year has increased by 32,000 year-on-year to 915,000 – the highest rate in 17 years. While the number of people without work for more than two years now stands at more than 460,000 – the highest rate since 1997....
