The government has said letting agents will face a new obligation to display full details of their fees both on their website and in their offices.

At Deputy PM Nick Clegg’s Common questions session, the Lib Dem leader faced calls from Labour’s Harriet Harman to back her party’s bid to ban agents from charging fees to tenants.

 He said there was “virtues” in the opposition’s push for longer tenancies....

One in seven over 65s may be forced to rent out spare rooms in their homes because they are struggling to live off their pensions.

However, that figure is even higher in London where one in five pensioners say they are prepared to become landlords.

New research revealed almost half of retirees – or over five million Britons over 65 – are desperately looking for alternate incomes because they cannot make ends meet....

A new system called ‘Rental Ratings’ – which will score private rental properties out of five - is to be launched in the UK.

The firm behind it say it is an attempt to self-regulate the sector and could be used by local councils as an alternative to licensing.

Rental Ratings, will work like the one to five star rating system for hotels, enabling tenants to see the quality of properties more easily....

Students are spending ‘millions’ on transport as rising monthly rents are pushing them further and further away from campus. 

According to recent figures, nearly four in five students make a 22-mile round trip to attend lectures at their university. This is significantly further than the average commuter, who is estimated to travel an average of 8.9 miles to work....
