‘Don't buy or sell pets on Facebook or Gumtree' warns animal charity

An animal charity has condemned pet owners who offload their unwanted cats and dogs on Facebook and Gumtree. 

 

Staff at Hull Animal Welfare Trust say that as many as seven pets a month are ending up at its South Cave shelter after being sold cheaply, or even given away, online....

Britons’ spending on pets will surpass £4.6bn for the first time in 2015 as animal lovers spoil their furry friends with quality diets, beauty treatments and designer outfits.

 

Total spending on pet care in the UK is set to reach a record high of £4.71bn this year, a 3% increase on last year’s £4.55bn and a growth of 25% since 2010....

Research by leading cat charity Cat Protection has revealed that more than half of owners do not know how to deal with an anxious moggy and think that showering them with even more affection is the answer....

A petition asking for dog-friendly carriages to be added to Eurostar was launched at the end of June.

Pets in Pyjamas, a website for pet gifts, hopes to get 100,000 signatures from members of the animal-loving public by September 30 and the issue discussed in the House of Commons.

The petition is found on the Government’s e-petition website and asks for dogs to be allowed to travel on the Eurostar in a designated carriage....
